Terms of Use
Plain terms for a site that sells nothing. What we publish, what we do not warrant, what you may do with our tables, and where the limits of our liability sit.
1. These terms
These Terms of Use govern your use of rate.ie, operated by Rate.ie from 222–226 Jubilee St, Stepney Green, London E1 3BS, United Kingdom. By using the site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site.
We may update these terms to reflect changes in the site, the law or our practices. The date at the top shows the current version, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. We will not change them retroactively to your disadvantage in relation to something that has already happened.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under English law, and nothing excludes liability where the law does not permit exclusion.
2. What this site is, and is not
Rate.ie publishes editorial guidance about travelling in England: prices, timings, routes, customs and practical advice. It is published in good faith, checked by hand and dated.
We are not a travel agency. We do not sell, book, broker or arrange transport, accommodation, tours, tickets or insurance. We hold no bonding, ATOL or ABTA membership because we handle no bookings and take no payments from readers.
We are not a financial, legal, medical or immigration adviser. Where we mention visas, health services, insurance or entry requirements, we are describing our general understanding, not advising you. Always confirm your own position with the official source — GOV.UK for entry rules, the NHS for health, your insurer for cover.
We take no commission. There are no affiliate links on this site and nobody pays us for a mention. Our recommendations reflect our own judgement and nothing else.
3. Accuracy, prices and timing
Every price, fare, opening time and journey duration on this site was verified by us on a stated date, and we recheck the whole site each February and September. Even so, information about travel goes out of date quickly and without warning.
- Rail fares change with operator pricing and availability, sometimes daily.
- Attraction prices and opening hours change seasonally and at short notice.
- Accommodation rates are indicative ranges, not quotes, and vary enormously by date.
- Timetables are altered by engineering works, industrial action and weather.
- Entry and visa requirements for the United Kingdom have changed repeatedly and may change again.
Accordingly, we give no warranty that the site is accurate, complete or current at the moment you read it. Always confirm anything that matters — a price, a time, a rule — with the operator, the venue or the relevant official source before you rely on it or spend money.
4. Acceptable use
You may read, print and share this site for your own personal, non-commercial travel planning. You may quote short passages with a visible credit and a link.
You must not:
- Copy, republish or redistribute substantial parts of the site, including our tables of prices and fares.
- Use automated tools to scrape, harvest or systematically download content.
- Use the content to train a machine learning model without our written permission.
- Frame, mirror or present the site as your own, or remove attribution.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, or interfere with the site's availability.
- Use our contact details to send unsolicited commercial messages, link requests or media kits.
We may restrict access where we reasonably believe these terms are being breached. Serious misuse may be reported to the appropriate authority.
5. Intellectual property
All text, layout, tables, design, code and the Rate.ie name and marks are owned by or licensed to us and protected by copyright and related rights. Our fare and cost tables took considerable work to compile and we enforce our rights in them.
Photographs are used under the Pexels licence and remain the work of their respective photographers. That licence does not transfer to you through your use of this site — if you want to use an image, obtain it from Pexels directly under their terms.
Reasonable requests to reuse a table or a passage are usually granted. Email support@rate.ie and tell us what you need it for.
6. Third-party sites and businesses
We link to operators, attractions, official bodies and businesses because the link is useful. We do not control those sites, do not endorse their terms and are not responsible for their content, availability, privacy practices or the goods and services they provide.
Where we name a pub, hotel, restaurant or attraction, we are describing our own experience of it on a particular date. It is not a guarantee of your experience, and standards change with ownership and staff. If somewhere we recommend has declined, please tell us — we would rather know.
Any contract you enter into with a third party is between you and them. We are not a party to it and cannot intervene in a dispute.
7. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rate.ie is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on its content, including without limitation travel costs, missed connections, cancelled bookings, refused entry, closed attractions or changes in price.
We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
We do not warrant that the site will be available uninterrupted or free of error, and we may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it without notice. We are not liable for any loss caused by a virus or similar that you acquire elsewhere while accessing the site.
If you are a consumer, you retain all statutory rights, and nothing here affects them.
8. Enquiries and correspondence
We answer travel questions free of charge as an editorial service, not as professional advice, and no contract for services is created by asking or by our reply. Our answers are our opinion based on the information you give us; you remain responsible for your own decisions.
By writing to us you agree that we may use anonymised versions of your question to improve the site or to add to our FAQ. We never publish names, email addresses or identifying details.
The contact form on this site is a demonstration and does not transmit data. For a genuine reply, use support@rate.ie or +44 20 7790 1050.
9. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the site are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom you may also bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
Questions about these terms are welcome. Write to Rate.ie, 222–226 Jubilee St, Stepney Green, London E1 3BS, United Kingdom, or email support@rate.ie.
